Hopes springs in Best Village Shop competition

14 November 2018

Family run village store and PO, Hopes of Longtown, Hereford, was today announced as runner up (and was highly commended) in the Best Small Shop of 2018 competition, run by the Independent Retailers’ Confederation (IRC).

The independent retailer, founded and run by Christine Hope, was recognised for its extensive range of services and support of local producers through its #ShopLocal30 stickers, which highlight products made within 30 miles of its front door.

The competition was open to UK independent retailers and judged more than 600 entrants based on their entrepreneurial skills, community values and customer service.

Mark Walmsley, chairman of the IRC, said: “Despite all of the bad headlines and the high-profile closures of larger stores, we firmly believe that specialist independent retailers can thrive in this climate by delivering a truly unique retail experience.”
