A helping hand for SubPostmasters... everywhere
Post Office card account campaign

With over three million signed postcards sent to MPs, and every post office displaying campaign posters, the NFSP’s POCA campaign fought hard to secure the contract for the Post Office and a future for the post office network.

The NFSP launched it’s Post Office card account (POCA) campaign, to save the POCA contract, in May 2008. At the time, the government was deciding which company would operate the successor to the POCA from 2010.

NFSP action
The NFSP sent out over 12,000 posters to every post office across the UK to display, urging customers to lobby their MP about the importance of retaining the contract, and to highlight how vital the POCA service is at their local post office.

We also supplied subpostmasters across the UK with postcards for customers to complete for return to local MPs over three million postcards were signed and returned by customers. We also gave members guidance on how to contact their local MP and newspaper Editor.

Campaign result
As a result of the NFSP campaign, and the actions of our members and their customers, on 13 November 2008 the government cancelled the tender process and awarded the contract exclusively to Post Office Ltd (POL) to continue providing the POCA until 2015.

"Winning the campaign was an amazing result for us and our customers; we have a lifeline to deliver our other products."

By ensuring subpostmasters’ voices – and those of post office customers – were heard in the press, in parliament and within government, the NFSP ensured that POCA2 was secured for POL, as a building block towards a sustainable future for the entire post office network.
