Post offices top consumer survey for third year running

04 August 2017

Post offices are the nation's favourite high street service, a survey of UK consumers has found.

The Association of Convenience Stores (ACS) Community Barometer asked people which services had the most positive impact on our high streets.

Post offices came out on top, followed by convenience stores and specialist food shops such as butchers and bakeries.

George Thomson, Chief Executive at NFSP, said:

“For the third year running the ACS Community Barometer has found that post offices and convenience stores are highly valued high street services.  This is great recognition for the 8,000 subpostmasters in the UK, who run 97% of the post office network.  The report also found that there are a number of services people want to see on the high street, including banks.  With more and more banks closing their branches there is a real opportunity for post offices to fill the void and broaden the range of banking services available at their counters.  We fully support the efforts of Post Office Ltd to grow its banking business, and will continue to work with them to ensure subpostmasters are paid a fair commission for delivering an expanded range of services.”
