The Post Office branch network and subpostmaster community has a new member - Laura Hamilton from Channel 4’s A Place in the Sun, and her husband Alex Goward, who reopened a post office branch in Purley, Surrey last week.
As reported in The SubPostmaster magazine (April issue, p6), Ms Hamilton recognised the potential for the branch after it closed last year, and went on to begin a major refurbishment of the shop. The branch operating within Lord Roberts on The Green, a former temperance inn, also offers a coffee shop and convenience store with a selection of artisan produce. It also sells newspapers and magazines as well as a range of greeting cards.
Ms Hamilton, a mother of two, said she was encouraged by the feedback she'd received so far and now plans to make the branch a community hub, appealing to all ages.
“We’ve been really passionate about bringing Lord Roberts on The Green back, and hope it becomes a huge asset to the community as well as a destination for meeting friends and family.
“It’s been challenging, managing the refurb, juggling two small children, filming the latest series of A Place in the Sun, and setting up a small business. But we’ve been so motivated by the positive feedback we’ve received along the way.
“We’ll run seasonal events and courses for both the young and old and are going to be selling some of our favourite produce too. It’s been a delight working with some really unique and well-loved artisan brands. Alex and I can’t wait to welcome everyone.”
