New report puts post offices at the heart of every community

01 August 2016

Responding to the community barometer report 2016 by the Association of Convenience Stores (ACS), which highlighted that:

  • having a post office in your local area has a positive impact – higher than any other local service in the survey
  • post offices score highly on the popularity index, with people saying that their area would benefit from a higher number
  • nearly three quarters of people surveyed said they were satisfied with the level of post office provision in their area

George Thomson, Chief Executive of the NFSP said:

“We’re pleased that local people continue to say that post offices have the most positive impact on their local community. The report shows that a post office is one of the most important barometers of the health of the high street. If there’s one thing that local people, businesses and politicians can agree on, it’s that without a post office, there is no local high street.

“As the high street changes, post offices are changing too. Many post offices are responding to the challenging trading environment, by co-locating with a convenience stores.

“The report also shows that communities would benefit from having more banks. At a time when more and more high street bank branches are closing, your local post office can step into the breach. Post offices offer banking services on behalf of all the major banks for both individuals and businesses. Next time you’re on the high street, pop into your post office to talk to them about the banking services they provide.”
